Real-Time Awareness: 7 Areas Your Organization Needs It

Real Time Awareness content discovery emerging patternsReal-Time Awareness: Content Discovery + Emerging Patterns

Real-time awareness means identifying what is happening in relation to a specific topic of interest. The immense volume of information on the Web in relation to almost any given topic requires the visualization of emerging patterns to understand what is going on. With this understanding, Internet users can achieve effective content discovery in a broad context by visualizing both emerging patterns and what is important.

This process is analogous to meteorological forecasting. The Web is, like the data associated with the weather, extremely chaotic. When exploring unstructured data from the Web, the same principles can be applied to present Web events in understandable emerging patterns. These emerging patterns help users more effectively “consume” information and thus be more aware of what is going on in respect of their specific topic of interest.

7 Areas Organizations Needs Real-Time Content Discovery

In a world that is changing so quickly, failure is guaranteed for those who don’t know what is going on. All business areas within the organization need to pay serious attention to new developments that (can) affect them. Here I list some of the areas for which real-time awareness is critical:

1. Marketing

Web 2.0 empowers companies to attract prospects using channels that are far cheaper and effective than TV, radio or cold calling. Content marketing is increasingly playing a major role in lead and revenue generation in all industries. It’s really straightforward. Publishing high-quality content allows attracting and nurturing qualified prospects over time with little or no human interaction. In order to deliver fresh relevant content, constant monitoring of the latest online trends and developments is essential.

2. PR & Brand Management

Knowing what customers, stakeholders, analysts and influential people are saying about the company is critical. Social media platforms provide unlimited ways for people to express their opinions. Businesses that effectively identify the formation of new buzz relating to their brand will constantly outperform their competitors. They will be able to act upon positive viral content to leverage it and reinforce the message. When what is being said about the brand is not good, the company will have the chance to mitigate the situation gets out of control.

3. Customer Service & Product Management

Most customers won’t complain directly when they are unsatisfied with a product or service. They will rather pull their smartphone and publicly share how they feel. Instead of a private conversation between business and customer, dialogues are increasingly taking place among users on Twitter or Facebook. Such information provides access to customer feedback that can lead to improvements of products and customer service processes. Business can increase their reactivity focusing on the issues that generate major discontent.

4. Business Development

Effectively monitoring the Web facilitates the detection of unexpected business opportunities. By staying aware of what is going on in their market, businesses can identify new innovative products that can be used as benchmarks, new opportunities coming from changes in the environment or potential partnerships. Experts require tools that leverage their knowledge by helping them spot events that might represent a business opportunity from the noise of the Web.

5. Competitive Intelligence

The increasing democratization of technology and distribution channels is reducing the barriers to entry. Disruptive players sprout at a faster pace. Known competitors increasingly release new products and features to test market fit and build new revenue streams and competitive advantage. Effective monitoring enables immediately mitigating the risk of new players or initiatives, learning from competitors’ actions and building upon their efforts and learning.

6. Risk management

Monitoring the environment is critical to find business opportunities. It can also dramatically reduce the risk of the company. Most business can be affected by specific changes in regulations, economy, security, trade and so on. Such changes can be potentially disastrous if known too late. Not only will they directly affect the company, but can redistribute market power to those companies that manage to better adapt to those changes.

7. HR & Training

Effectively managing the resources of a business requires accelerating the learning curve of new employees and ensuring that the existing ones don’t become obsolete. HR managers must provide tools that support an effective ongoing discovery of the latest trends in the industry and professional roles. In a world where technology and innovation is happening at high speed, it is the only way to empower workers to make faster and better decisions.

Google alerts and Tweetbeep services are great for monitoring a constantly changing environment.

Tony thank you for your comment.

Have you noticed that Google alerts are often a few days old, and that if you execute a search you will find more events that were not reported in your alerts.

This is a limitation and it does not really gives you the BIG picture of what's happening.

Despite the usefulness of Google or Tweetbeep alerts, it is difficult to quickly go over what is happening and not waste precious time reading too many posts and articles.

We believe that a more natural and correlated presentation can help you quickly detect patterns and the unexpected events.

Feel free to contact us and we will be happy to demonstrate how our Awareness Engine can help.

Again, thank you for your comment.
